Beautiful Crochet Mandala

This crochet mandala was made using the Summer Hearts Mandala crochet pattern by Wink. Terrific pattern and it looks great with these color choices.

Meet the Maker

laura swaddle crochet mandala

This lovely crochet mandala comes from Laura Swaddle in the UK. She writes:

Wink’s work was always so vibrant and accessible – even as a beginner it was something I felt I could try.

Depression lies and steals from people, so this project is a wonderful way to raise awareness – though what a tragedy it had to come about the way that it did.

This illness has touched both our family and friends. We live with those who struggle and we have lost more than one for whom the battle became too much.

Thinking about Wink’s family at this most difficult of times.”

Words by Wink

In January 2014, Wink shared some winter photography, writing:

“A perfect winter wonder land, all right outside our house. We had the tiniest bit of snow the other week, but the little snow that did fall froze right away and provided the most lovely images of a world in suspended animation. Seriously, I know snow and cold temperatures can be a bit harsh, but I love the sight of everything covered in a thin layer of frost! It’s like the world is literally frozen, like it’s not moving, and for a brief period of time it allows me and my camera to capture it. I love it.”

About Depression

crochet mandalas center detail

One purpose of this project is to raise awareness about depression so each post will end with some facts, thoughts or quotes about depression, suicide and/or mental health. Today I want to share this beautiful dance that appeared on this season’s So You Think You Can Dance, a dance designed to express depression visually:

Ariana portray’s Jim’s depression in this dance.

All contributions to Mandalas for Marinke are welcome and will help raise awareness about depression while honoring her work in the same way that this great contribution has done today. Details to join here.
