Beautiful Crochet Mandala
This is the spoke crochet mandala pattern that Marinke designed. It was contributed anonymously. I love the bright green of the spokes!
Words by Wink
In March 2015, Wink wrote about why she loved the hdc stitch worked in the third loop only:
“This stitch is so versatile; I use it a lot in things like cowls and scarves and bags, but I think you can really use this stitch for, well, everything! It works easiest when making something that’s constructed in the round, since this stitch doesn’t really ‘work’ when going back and forth. The third loop lies behind the stitch, so you need to keep coming from the same side with your hook to be able to work into it; that way, the v’s will move to the front instead of to the back (where you can’t see them!). So items that are worked in the round, like cowls, bags, and other tubular items are perfect to use this stitch for!”
About Depression
One purpose of this project is to raise awareness about depression so each post will end with some facts, thoughts or quotes about depression, suicide and/or mental health. Although it’s a bit early for it, I wanted to make sure that you know that November 21, 2015 is International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day. There is a Digital Quilt project online that’s part of this and you can go on there at anytime and add a photo square for someone that you’ve lost. I added a post for Marinke, sharing the originally post that I did here when I first heard the news. I encourage you to share your story here if you’ve lost someone to suicide. The stories are heartbreaking and touching and made me both smile and cry.
All contributions to Mandalas for Marinke are welcome and will help raise awareness about depression while honoring her work in the same way that this great contribution has done today. Details to join here.
