Beautiful Crochet Mandala

Karen's Mandalas For Marinke From Lancaster, UK

This is a crochet mandala made using different rich colors for every round – Wink would love it! From the feel of it I think it might be made from cotton yarn, which Wink would also love. It’s made using her standard 12 round crochet mandala free pattern.

Meet the Maker

Karen's #Crochet Mandalas For Marinke From Lancaster, UK

This lovely mandala was made by Karen Ness who lives in Lancaster, which she says “is a little English city in Northwest England near “The Lake District” where it rains a lot!” This card is of the area:

Karen shared:

I have made a mandala for Wink as I feel saddened that such a creative person should feel so depressed that they take their own life. I only discovered her blog a few months ago and was inspired by her creativity and colour.

I am fortunate that I have never felt depression like that. I have friends that have but that have come through it. For those of is without depression, a bad day is bad, but we can see a light and know that a better day will follow. It must be awful for those who cannot see that light.

I want to send condolences and thoughts to her family; they have my prayers at this time. The creativity community is very supportive, and I want her family and friends to know that they are supported.”

Words by Wink

Wink made a crochet baskets pattern for Tuts+, writing:

“Looking for something quick and useful to make? These handy crochet baskets are just the project for you! … You can easily adapt this pattern to make larger or smaller baskets, and by using yarn colours that match your interior, you’ll have a couple of stylish baskets in no time!”

I always loved her enthusiasm. <3

About Depression

Karen's #Crochet MandalasForMarinke

One purpose of this project is to raise awareness about depression so each post will end with some facts, thoughts or quotes about depression, suicide and/or mental health. Today I’d like to share a link to Jess Dell’s beautiful piece of writing called The Only Way Forward Is Through, which describes the process of just sitting still for awhile to heal. There are many, many days when I have to just be in bed and I have to be gentle with myself about that, which I think is what draws me to this piece. She writes in part:

“You must be so still and so quiet to hear the gentle whisper of spirit. It is the only voice left inside of you when everything else has fallen and crumbled away. And that voice is what you have been searching for all along. It is the voice of your soul, guiding you to your deepest work, your highest calling, your greatest fulfillment.”

All contributions to Mandalas for Marinke are welcome and will help raise awareness about depression while honoring her work in the same way that this great contribution has done today. Details to join here.
