Today I wanted to provide an update on Mandalas for Marinke and remind you that there’s an upcoming deadline! All of your mandalas should be postmarked by October 15, 2015. That means get it dropped in the mail by that date. If you absolutely can not meet that deadline then please contact me via email (kathryn.vercillo on gmail) to work something out.

Contributions
Thank you so much to each and every single one of you who has contributed to the project. I can’t tell you how special each mandala is to me. I get excited about every package, first when it arrives and then when I load it into the blog and then again when the blog post goes live and I get to share it. I’m touched by every story, every message of condolence, every stitch. I wish that I could explain to all of you how amazing the mandalas look all together, even more than the sum of the stunning parts. I can hardly wait to photograph them all together but of course I need to wait until the last ones arrive!
Recently in Crochet Magazines
I also want to thank all of the wonderful blogs that have mentioned the Mandalas for Marinke project, especially all of you who shared your own stories and thoughts about Wink and depression. I also want to mention that the project has gotten some great magazine coverage.
Crochet Savvy, August 2015, shared my original post about Wink along with the project
Simply Crochet, Issue 35, mentioned the Mandalas for Marinke project. This magazine published some of Wink’s crochet patterns and is also the magazine in which she named me a crochet hero a long time ago!
Happily Hooked, August 2015 (Issue 17) included an article that I wrote with my first interview of Wink and an update about our relationship over time
Interweave Crochet, Fall 2015, had an article that I wrote about the Mandalas for Marinke project. It included photos of the mandalas by Gayle, Karen, Laura and Susan. It also includes a thread crochet mandala pattern by Lori Carlson.
What’s Next?
So here’s what’s next:
- Accepting the last of the mandalas. Contributions should be postmarked by October 15th so I expect they’ll mostly be in by the end of October, barring any post office mishaps.
- I still have a stack of crochet mandalas here that I haven’t loaded into the blog, yet. Each one takes time because I really do give it loving attention and intention as I work with it. So I’ll be continuing to photograph those and enter them into the blog and you’ll continue seeing daily posts of those along with depression awareness information.
- After that, I’ll be doing the additional photographs that will be needed for the book project (which is essentially an art show catalog/ coffee table book of contributions). I’ll be working on the book design and layout for several months; this part is actually toughest for me skill-wise but also very exciting. Proceeds from the book will go to a depression-related cause, to be detailed at a later date.
- Through all of this, I’m confirming the date and location of the Mandalas for Marinke art show to be held in San Francisco in 2016. It’s in the works!
And I have some other exciting ideas for the times that follow that but it’s important to take this step by step and honor each part of the process as it develops at its own pace.
The collage of mandalas are just beautiful. What great works of art, can’t wait to see them all displayed.
