These six colorful, creative crochet mandalas come from Wendy Seddon in Central Victoria, Australia. She writes:
“I am a busy wife, mother and daughter and try to fit my creative life around caring for the ones who are important to me. I love making “STUFF” and have tried a zillion ways of doing that but keep coming back to my favorite: CROCHET. It was taught to me as a child by my dear mother.”
Wendy is a member of Bendigo Textile Artists Inc. and Bendigo Branch Embroiderers Guild. See some benefits of crafting in groups.
My favorite of these mandalas is definitely the one with the surface crochet heart on it, but each one is beautiful in its own right. Two of them are mini-mandalas; submissions have re-opened specifically to accept more mini-mandalas to hand out to people who need a tangible reminder that things are going to be okay. Details here.
She adds a lovely note that reads: “
“Thank you, Wink, for your generosity and inspiration. RIP.”
For the depression awareness portion of today’s post, I wanted to share this video that explains the difference between sadness and depression:
As someone who lived for many, many years with undiagnosed depression, I’ve had to really work to learn the difference within me between sadness and depression. My sadness can easily become depression. Within the last few years, I’ve learned to identify sadness when it happens and to work with it therapeutically and with lots of gentle self-care so that I can honor the sorrow without falling into depression.
Sometimes people mistake stress and depression. Here’s a helpful chart from Mental Health America (specifically geared towards college students):
