Today we have a contribution to the Mandalas for Marinke project that comes from two friends who each sent their pretty mandalas in together.

First, we have Melanie of MelsMakes who says, “I live in the Allen Valley, Northumberland, UK, with my husband, son and dog. I love tea and cake, crochet, playing the French horn and drinking wine!” She writes,

“I love Wink’s use of colour in her designs, which has given me the inspiration to experiment with colors in my own projects. I chose to contribute to the Mandalas for Marinke project as Wink’s story truly touched my heart. I also suffer with depression and find crochet helps to keep me grounded. To be able to create something for myself and others with my own hands, a hook and some yarn is very therapeutic.

My depression has been diagnosed after the incredibly traumatic process of adopting two children and the subsequent removal of one child when it became unsafe for them to live together. I find it very hard to talk about my depression, with the associated stigma. I was proud to wear flower in my hair for Wink, and explain why, and begin to find non-judgmental fiends in my own community.”

She adds,

“To Wink’s family, I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you can take some comfort from the love and respect for Wink which has flowed through crochet around the world.”
