Beautiful Crochet Mandala

This terrific crochet mandala was an anonymous contribution. It was made using Wink’s standard 12-round crochet mandala pattern. I love how the colors are pastel and yet bright at the same time. Beautiful combination.

Words by Wink

Anonymous Pastel Crochet Contribution to Mandalas for Marinke

In August 2013, Wink shared some of the process behind her creation of the Dancing Hearts Wrap:

“I initially planned on making an afghan. Ambitious, I know! But this yarn didn’t want to become an afghan. Not in these cute colours, anyway. I had a couple of different motif ideas, and after a week of trial and error, I came up with a simple yet effective motif, and decided to make a wrap with it. And that’s when things really got interesting. I planned on joining them all into a triangular shape, but when I laid the motifs on the floor to see what it would look like, I wasn’t totally sold on the design. Yes it looked okay, but it wasn’t special.”

About Depression

One purpose of this project is to raise awareness about depression so each post will end with some facts, thoughts or quotes about depression, suicide and/or mental health. One of the things that depression does to a lot of people, myself included, is causes major fatigue. I wrote recently, in an article about my experience for Rebelle Society:

“I went to sleep, and then all I wanted to do was sleep and sleep and sleep because its presence brings exhaustion to every limb.

I’ve been here before, in this place, detailed it in blog posts and memoirs, shared it over coffee and in classrooms. I am intimately familiar with what depression is, what it looks like in my home, what it feels like in my bones. I have training in it and professionals explaining it and experience with it.

And it doesn’t matter, because depression is this tricky thing that manages to convince me that it’s something else this time, every time.”
