Beautiful Crochet Mandala

LuAnn's Crochet Contribution to Mandalas for Marinke

Crafter LuAnn shares:

I chose the colors as a testament to her creativity. The white center is to show how all the colors are hidden in white, just as Wink’s talent was hidden at first. But then, the beauty of all those colors were expressed in her work, grew larger, and lovelier. Yet, finally, the colors were again hidden, in a way, but her passing; thus the white border. However, there is a sparkle in the white, which I hope represents her new life, that will continue to shine in a new way”.

Meet the Maker

LuAnn's Crochet Contribution to Mandalas for Marinke

This crochet mandala comes to us from LuAnn Batt (LuAnn Madeline on Facebook) who says:

I am a wife, mom to 9 children, and grandma to 13 grandchildren. I love to crochet.

Let us love one another.”

And she adds:

I am sad to say that I did not know of Wink and her beautiful work until the day I learned of her passing. Now that I have seen her work, I feel blessed to be able to participate in this endeavor so that her creativity may live on and inspire others.

My heart goes out to the family and loved ones of Wink. May God comfort and strengthen you, and give you His peace in your heart.”

Words by Wink

Wink loved meeting her online friends. In 2013 she shared:

“I took the train down to Waalwijk, to visit my bloggy friends Nicollie and Nancy! Nicollie was kind enough to invite us into her lovely home, full of crochet knick knacks (and some of them made with very familiar patterns). It was very hot that day, and lucky for me and Nancy, Nicollie has a very nice and large garden, too! We talked and crocheted all day, and it was really nice, talking to fellow crocheters. I love that blogging has given me so much, including new friends.”

About Depression

LuAnn's Crochet Contribution to Mandalas for Marinke

One purpose of this project is to raise awareness about depression so each post will end with some facts, thoughts or quotes about depression, suicide and/or mental health. Today I thought I’d point you to Get the Picture, a project designed to change the images we have in the media of depression (away from the classic “headclutchers” towards a more complete vision of all of the different ways we can look when we are depressed. They did this because people don’t actually sit there with their head in their hands all day during depression, depression can have a range of emotions associated with it, we often pose more “happy” for pictures even when depressed and those classic media depictions can be suicide triggers.

All contributions to Mandalas for Marinke are welcome and will help raise awareness about depression while honoring her work in the same way that this great contribution has done today. Details to join here.
