Beautiful Crochet Mandalas

These two soft crochet mandalas combine intricate stitches with perfect color palettes. The spiral design is an adaptation from a spiral square that the crafter used to create her own mandala – beautiful!

About Depression

Mariana''s Mandalas for Marinke

One purpose of this project is to raise awareness about depression so each post ends with some facts, thoughts or quotes about depression, suicide and/or mental health. Today let’s talk about the relationship between exercise and depression, namely that there’s a correlation and that exercise may help relieve or reduce some symptoms of depression.

A 2014 study on Depressive Symptoms and Physical Activity found:

“The relationship between activity and depressive symptoms was bidirectional, albeit more persistent during adult life in the direction from activity to depressive symptoms. Findings suggest that activity may alleviate depressive symptoms in the general population and, in turn, depressive symptoms in early adulthood may be a barrier to activity.”

Harvard Health Publications explains:

“How does exercise relieve depression? For many years, experts have known that exercise enhances the action of endorphins, chemicals that circulate throughout the body. Endorphins improve natural immunity and reduce the perception of pain. They may also serve to improve mood. Another theory is that exercise stimulates the neurotransmitter norepinephrine, which may directly improve mood.”

  1. Hi Kathryn,

I was shocked when I heard what happened on your website as I had been seeing her crochet mandalas for quite some time. I myself suffer from severe bouts of depression and crochet and knitting is a big part of how I deal with it. So I wanted to make something special for her and I have included the picture on my website. You are welcome to use it on your website as well as an example. I hope to make one more of this same fashion and pin them in different bulletin boards or places from month to month.

  2. I am intrigued by the texture of the sandals shown in this post… what brand and fiber is it? So LOVELY!!!
