Vicki's Crochet Mandala + Crochet Saved My Life

Vicki Crochet Mandala

This simply charming crochet mandala is from Vicki in the UK. She blogs at Off the Hook for You where she shares,

“I’m lucky enough to be a ‘mostly stay at home’ mummy and wife to my 2 children and husband. We live in Hertfordshire in the UK, and I spend my days crocheting, gardening, and helping at my children’s school. We have 2 lurchers called Monty and Luna, and 8 chickens! I was a scientist in my previous career before children, so could be described as a bit of a geek too!”

She shared in her own blog post about her mandala,

“The colour choices changed from lovely and bright – to somehow mellow and sympathy type colours.  This is not my plan – I’m still not sure how it happened like that, but I hope you like it just the same.”

She says to Wink,

“A wonderful crochet inspiration – you will be missed!”

Today I thought I’d share some quotes that other people wrote after reading or interview me about Crochet Saved My Life. First up is from Pain Database:

“Nobody said that battling pain and/or depression is easy. But a good first step is realizing that you need more troops on your side. “Holistic” things like sunshine, healthy foods, and positive friends go a long way in changing how the nervous system responds to stress. A productive, soothing activity like crochet can be a useful tool to keep things moving when depression and pain seem insurmountable.”

Madila Handmade wrote,

“Crafts and handmade projects can help us cope with some troubles of our daily life, and be a relief for complicated situations and diseases we have to confront sometimes. It’s good to know that we can find a place in them to comfort us and deal with our gloomy self. Pick up the hook and let the sun shine in!”

And the Red Heart blog says,

“Relaxed, repetitive motions such as the ones used in crochet and knitting can help calm down the body and the brain. Have you ever come home and sat down to work on your current project after a bad day? Not only does working on something you enjoy help, but the actual motions involved assist in creating a better mood.”
