Mari's Crochet Mandalas + Historic Men with Mental Illness

Mari's Crochet Mandalas

Mari of Cali Crochet contributed this beautiful set of colorful crochet mandalas. She says, “I’m a wife, mother, marathoner, yogi and lover of crochet. I am honored to be part of the #MandalasForMarinke project. I will forever be inspired by Wink’s love of crochet.”

She adds,

“I am so deeply saddened by Wink’s death, and I send my deepest sympathies to her family and friends for their tragic loss. I will forever be inspired by her innovative blog, and her love for crochet. Thank you, Wink, for your lovely crochet patterns and tutorials. That you for all your “crochet advice” that I took to heart, such as to always be comfortable when you crochet. I love how Wink said, “Choose the most comfy place in the house to crochet.” I also learned Wink’s brilliant invisible join method to finish my crochet work; I always use this. Thank you for inspiring me and so many other people around the world with your beautiful creations! RIP Wink.”

For the depression awareness portion of this post, I wanted to point you to Listverse’s Top 10 Awesome Men with Mental Illnesses, which shares some male figures from history who struggled with depression and other difficult conditions. I noticed when I went to the URL that it was tagged “top 10 crazy men”, a term that is a bit offensive, but I still found the list to be solid.

The list shares that the delusions of King Charles VI, Abraham Lincoln’s melancholia, Tennessee Williams dual diagnosis issues, and the possibility that Edgar Allan Poe had bipolar issues. It also discusses several other men, including a few famous suicides like that of Ernest Hemingway. No sector of society is untouched by mental illness.
